Sadie and Scott
Sadie and Scott is the podcast where two best friends dive headfirst into life’s most awkward, hilarious, and completely unnecessary conversations. From weird internet trends and questionable fashion choices to expensive hobbies we abandoned after one week, Sadie and Scott keep things honest, ridiculous, and very relatable.
Sometimes we bring in guests. Sometimes we drag those guests directly into the chaos. Either way, the goal is simple: no politics, no pressure, and no pretending we have it all together.
Just big laughs, real conversation, and the kind of “did they just say that?” moments usually reserved for the group chat.

This week, Scott and Sadie take on a topic they quickly realize they do not fully understand… menopause...well, Sadie does.
What starts as a casual conversation turns into a deep dive into hot flashes, brain fog, sleep struggles, mood swings, and the many things no one really explains ahead of time.
Along the way, they play a game of “Menopause or Made It Up,” investigate real-life scenarios in their version of a “Law and Order: Menopause Unit,” and try to figure out what’s actually happening versus what just feels like chaos.
It’s funny, honest, and a little eye-opening, especially when they realize how little most people actually know about it.
If you’ve ever wondered what menopause really looks like, or thought “that can’t be normal”… this episode might help.

So I struggled a little bit to get things going, and your paramenopausal brain wanted to kill me. You really did.
SPEAKER_04I did. I was zero patience.
SPEAKER_00You're like, I'm sitting here.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I saw I said I was I've been sitting here for 15 minutes.
SPEAKER_00Fucker was a couple of times that you used that word.
SPEAKER_04Did I call you a fucker?
SPEAKER_00You stupid fucker.
SPEAKER_04Usually I mean that was in my head.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm pretty used to that though. Like I I live with a woman who's now metapuzzle.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00She still uses it as an excuse to call me a stupid fucker.
SPEAKER_04No, I think she has at least till she's 60.
SPEAKER_00Why 60?
SPEAKER_04I don't know. Just seems like a good number to call me.
SPEAKER_00No, you don't get to set parameters. No. Like if you're out of it and you're not a meanie head, then you don't get to continue to claim that you're doing it because of your I mean there's also there's hormonal shifts that are happening. Listen, hey, listen, I totally get it. I am a very progressive man. I totally get it.
SPEAKER_04I love this. I'm sitting across from the right person then.
SPEAKER_00However.
SPEAKER_04Oh, what is your however? Skirt very lightly, Scott.
SPEAKER_00Skirt very lightly. Not a word, not a phrase at all. Skirt very lightly.
SPEAKER_04Is it not?
SPEAKER_00Tread very lightly would be one way.
SPEAKER_04But what is like skirt?
SPEAKER_00Tread lightly, my friend. Just say tread lightly in one moment.
SPEAKER_04If you have to come up with another another word other than tread, what would it be?
SPEAKER_00Well, it wouldn't be skirt.
SPEAKER_04Skeet?
SPEAKER_00Oh my god. Skeet. No, he was an actor in screen.
SPEAKER_03Skeet lightly, my friend. Skeet already. Skeet lightly. Alright, go on.
SPEAKER_00This is this has become a F. You know what? Yeah. Let's just spring is in the air. Alright, are you ready to start talking?
SPEAKER_04Yes. Been here. Yes, ready. Got you.
SPEAKER_00Welcome everyone to Start Talking with Sadie and Scott. My name is Scott. I am one of your hosts.
SPEAKER_04And I'm the other. Her name is Sadie.
SPEAKER_00And Sadie is running the gamut of menopausal symptoms tonight.
SPEAKER_04Here I am with my.
SPEAKER_00Which I totally, I totally empathize with, by the way.
SPEAKER_04Thank you, Scott. I appreciate that. I think I think I think men are starting to turn the corner and really take a take a look at what's happening with their women.
SPEAKER_00Well, a guy in his 20s doesn't give a shit.
SPEAKER_04No, they don't give a shit.
SPEAKER_00Because that just means that his old aunt or his mom or whatever. I remember one time I was 16.
SPEAKER_03Were you at bandcamp?
SPEAKER_0017. No. I never went to band camp.
SPEAKER_03I picture you at band camp. Okay.
SPEAKER_00I was in the band at school. But that's because all the cool kids were in the band at my school, because we we played for like the Pope and stuff.
SPEAKER_04So like all the cool kids were in the band's car.
SPEAKER_00They were.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00We were.
SPEAKER_04All right.
SPEAKER_00So what the fuck was I gonna say?
SPEAKER_04I don't know. It threw you off because you were like, wait, I am cool. I could tell your inner processing.
SPEAKER_00What the fuck were we talking about?
SPEAKER_04Menopause.
SPEAKER_00I am drawing it completely blankly.
SPEAKER_04We're talking about menopause.
SPEAKER_00Well, yes, we are. Yes. And so I am totally empathetic to it.
SPEAKER_04Yes, I love this.
SPEAKER_00There is no however, by the way. There's no however.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00However.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00We were just talking about it before we started hitting the record button, which is you don't get to use it as an excuse to be a dick? A dickhead.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00If you're not actually suffering from it.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00That's like somebody saying, um, oh God. I don't I want to be as light as possible with this.
SPEAKER_04But what is the age of suffering? Like, how do you really know?
SPEAKER_00Well, for me, when did I get married? I got married at 28 and then she was not in menopause. Seven. Well, that's still my period of fucking she's in her car right now listening to this episode, going, I'm gonna kill him.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you're so done, dude. You're so done.
SPEAKER_00Well, she's now in menopause. She is now menopausal.
SPEAKER_04So that means that she has not had her period for over a year.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you know what thing I learned not to say to a woman? What? Not to say to them, so you've dried up.
SPEAKER_04Oh God, you would say that?
SPEAKER_00No, somebody else said it, but now I but I learned, I'm like, oh, that's something you do not say.
SPEAKER_04I can't wait to dry up. But I can say it. Because I'm a woman. I can't wait for this to be done.
SPEAKER_00Good lord.
SPEAKER_04Any, listen, any chickas, listen right now, they know what I'm saying. They cannot wait for it just to be done. You just, you just it's a very long process. It's like 10 years. That's a long time.
SPEAKER_00That's not fair.
SPEAKER_04What do you mean?
SPEAKER_00It's a fucking hard thing, being it really actually is.
SPEAKER_04And there's no, I mean, now we're starting to see a little more education on it. And I wouldn't say education um at the grade levels of like say at school levels, but now as we're You don't need to teach a nine-year-old kid about menopause.
SPEAKER_00You need to teach a 39-year-old man about menopause.
SPEAKER_04I know, but where but the 39-year-old man does not go to school.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't work. So how are we going to 39 years? Yeah, we do need to figure out. That's what TikTok is for.
SPEAKER_04The TikTok.
SPEAKER_00I've learned a lot about TikTok.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god, menopause is excuse me.
SPEAKER_00Oh God. She's having a is that a menopause in your throat?
SPEAKER_04It actually is a menace, it's it's it's a menopause in my throat. Um, but it's all over, it's on the social, it's on news, it's it's everywhere. I'm really loving and I love that this world is starting to embrace where I feel like I'm at, and I feel like I don't have answers myself because I've never been educated with this. I went to school, I learned about monthly cycles, I learned about how not to get pregnant, I learned all those things. I never knew this was gonna happen to me. This is all fucking news to me.
SPEAKER_00Did your mom ever sit you down when she was going through menopause and say, by the way, get get ready, kiddo?
SPEAKER_04No, absolutely not. And I don't think that I don't think that happens. I just don't think that's a thing.
SPEAKER_00So we need women to talk to women about their experience.
SPEAKER_04And I think every mother out there who if you're listening right now and you are at an age where you have, you know, young women or middle-aged women that are going through this, my God, just talk to them about it.
SPEAKER_00Don't screw them up too early, though. Yeah, don't they're for a two year old. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Don't do that. Don't do that. But I had to make a phone call to my mom to be like, when were you done? When did you start? When were you done? Like, oh, I remember what I was gonna say. Like, where where am where am I at in this journey of fuckerism that's happening in my body and in my head?
SPEAKER_00Fuckerism. I love that.
SPEAKER_04Like, where am I? Where am I? Because I I'm just I'm I'm I follow obviously in your path genetically. So where am I in this? And she enlightened me.
SPEAKER_00Where are you in this fuckerism?
SPEAKER_04Fuckerism, because it is fuckerism.
SPEAKER_00We're totally using that word from now on.
SPEAKER_04It just like hits you in the face out of nowhere. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_00So when you okay, so I am a 76-year-old man.
SPEAKER_03Sure.
SPEAKER_00Um, so it was about 20 years ago that my wife went through menopause.
SPEAKER_04For you, not for her, because she's definitely not that old.
SPEAKER_00Oh, she's still gone through it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But okay, so I remember I remember what I learned when I was a teenager. I was about 16 or 17 years old, and I had a girl in my room.
SPEAKER_04Oh. Your mom allowed that?
SPEAKER_00No. The door had to be open, but were you a dolphin?
SPEAKER_04Oh, wait, no, not a dolphin.
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_04A narwhal.
SPEAKER_00Jesus Christ. A Nair duel? No. But thank you for trying to remember our bits in in every episode.
SPEAKER_01I kind of like dolphin does.
SPEAKER_00We're, you know, we were my I can remember. She left. I was on the phone with a buddy of mine. She had said, Why is your door closed? And I'm like, because I'm fucking fingering this chick right now, mom. I didn't say. I still remember, I still remember her name, which I will not say on the air because um don't say it. In case she's listening, but she's probably not. Anyway.
SPEAKER_04Because she's in menopause, and she will literally like send you like cyanide in the mail. She will. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We've actually got a couple of we got a couple of stories today about menopause that we're gonna share with the audience. Anyway, I remember on the phone. Here's something you don't do when you're a teenager. Don't let your mother hear you on the phone.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_00Telling your buddy, I don't know, man, she must be on the rag.
SPEAKER_04Ooh, God, that's the worst thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Ever. No. No.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_00Don't ever say that. That was just something. Uh I mean, I'm I might be 10 minutes too late in this recording to be able to share that, but that was the thing that was like, Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And that's a word that's so gross. Like if you think it's so natural, like why? It is a beautiful thing that we're able to do this.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we're miraculous. But here's the thing.
SPEAKER_00You are fucking machines. Yeah, literally. So here's the thing. You start your menopause menopause, sorry. You start your menstrual cycles at like 11. 11, 12, 13. Unless you're a high performing athlete, maybe into your late teens, but then you bleed every 30 days unless you're pregnant. Then you have kids.
SPEAKER_04For the what, 40 ther how many years is that?
SPEAKER_00Well, you pretty much produ you're born with the number of eggs that you have.
SPEAKER_04Over 30 years, that's right.
SPEAKER_00You come out of the womb with the number of eggs that you're gonna produce, right? That's why you're then you have kids, and your body has uh no according to the you, your body goes to shit, but for some men that it doesn't matter. But then the faucet closes.
SPEAKER_04I know. No one tells you about that.
SPEAKER_00You go from being living in a rainforest to living in the Mojave Desert.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's wild.
SPEAKER_00And then everything in your brain tells you that your husband is the most annoying human being on the planet.
SPEAKER_04Everything is the most annoying thing on the hand. Your body temperature is the most annoying thing on the planet, your husband is the most annoying, your children, everything. It's just wild. It's a wild ride, and you're all you're the only one in the ride. That's what you feel like. It's crazy. It's actually more traumatic to go through. Like, I remember getting my menstrual cycle and being very traumatized, right? It is way more traumatic to be on this end of it than it was at the beginning of it. Way more traumatic. Way more. Partly. Yeah, at the end, partly because it's the end of a chapter, which is always really hard to part from.
SPEAKER_00True.
SPEAKER_04Um, and just where I am at in my life in accordance to like my age. It's just a it's a reminder of a pentagenarian, by the way. Fuck off. It's just a reminder of that I'm not young, I'm not fertile, I'm not anyone's desire, except for my husband, of course.
SPEAKER_00Well, hold on.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Can we get an alright from the audience? And those two women in the Maritimes who totally want your bot.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I'm I'm gonna tell them what I'm wearing tonight.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's funny because we said that in our episode with Lisa Zarotny, where I made the mistake of going, oh, you you're done menopause? Oh. Did you? Hey. Not worry about any more cars coming.
SPEAKER_04And what was my response? Uh you can you can desire to park that anywhere you want. It's new, you're not parking it anywhere near your wife. Nowhere near your wife. Well, it all depends. On what? If you've cleaned the kitchen.
SPEAKER_00Or the dishwasher's empty, or the cushions went on the couch properly.
SPEAKER_04Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Or, you know, I learned very quickly during my wife's menopausal um experience um when to say no and when to just go yeah, dear, you do whatever you want.
SPEAKER_04Just sip it, yeah. Because it's a bit of a whirlwind, right?
SPEAKER_00Like we literally had an argument about a shelving unit to hold books. And you know what we argued about? She loved it. It had all the right things, the combination of the space and the thing, the microphone.
SPEAKER_04You were at IKEA, weren't you?
SPEAKER_00No, fuck that. I hate IKEA. I always get lost. So, no, we were she bought it online and she's showing me photos. And I was like, so what's it made out of? She goes, Oh, it's metal.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00You're not$680 worth of fucking metal.
SPEAKER_04Was it Wayfair?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, fuck. It was Wayfair.
SPEAKER_04Wayfair, they their the prices are crazy. It's because you can just return.
SPEAKER_00Then I comes in, she builds it. Because I don't build shit. Built it? I don't build shit. No, I never want to build that. I have a fucking rule. You want to buy something from IKEA? Fuck you, you build it. I am not fucking no, I will, I will fucking kill people.
SPEAKER_04You know, I tweaked my back last time I tried to put together an Ikea.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Let the people who like to put IKEA furniture together build the furniture. I don't airgo.
SPEAKER_01Oh, airgo.
SPEAKER_00Unless you want me to drive into town and find a large group of people to murder. Oh, don't ask me to put together that fucking shit. So she puts the shelf together.
SPEAKER_04Do you know what you sound like? A menopausal woman.
SPEAKER_00I'm going through manopause.
SPEAKER_03You're in manopause.
SPEAKER_00All right. So here's the thing. She builds the shelves. She puts it down. And I'm like, yeah, it's pretty. It's not fucking worth$600 and whatever dollars that we paid for the fucking shelf.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, I guess maybe I was manopausal when I was having that episode.
SPEAKER_04Scott, look at me. Look at me, bro. Like deep in the eyes. Just take a breath. Everything's gonna be okay. No, it won't.
SPEAKER_03There's books on the shelf.
SPEAKER_00Do you want to play a quick game I just made up?
SPEAKER_03Impromptu, yes.
SPEAKER_00Okay, all right. We're gonna play a game.
SPEAKER_04Okay, shoot.
SPEAKER_00Here's the game. Menopause or I made it up.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so here are things. There are statements.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00And you have to decide whether I made them up or someone in menopause said it.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Question number one. There's only ten.
SPEAKER_04Ten? Jeez.
SPEAKER_00We don't have to go through all of them.
SPEAKER_04That's fine. I'm easy.
SPEAKER_00How are we doing for time? Are you okay? Um okay, boss lady.
SPEAKER_02Whoa, whoa!
SPEAKER_00Virtual assistant. All right, here we go. Question number one.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Menopause or I made it up.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00So meaning did a woman in menopause. Fuck, I'm just helping our audience. God, you're making me so. Sudden intense heat in your ears only. Metopause or I made it up?
SPEAKER_02Metopause.
SPEAKER_00No, I made it up. No woman in menopause has ever said that to me. Yeah, I've just been.
SPEAKER_04What the fuck is on my microphone, dude?
SPEAKER_00That's a bug. Flick it off.
SPEAKER_04Can you please get it off? What the hell? Do you know I saw that underneath your desk? And I was like, what is that? And now it's where is it?
SPEAKER_01Where? Where is it?
SPEAKER_04It was on the speaker.
SPEAKER_00Don't kill it.
SPEAKER_02What is it?
SPEAKER_00It's a stink bug. Don't kill it.
SPEAKER_02Will it stink?
SPEAKER_00If you kill it, it will.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. Are you recording this?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
unknownOh fuck.
SPEAKER_00It's going in the after reel.
SPEAKER_02Holy shit.
SPEAKER_00You okay now?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Is it gonna actually stink?
SPEAKER_00If you kill it, it will stink. Don't kill it. You have to pick it up gently and then put it in the toilet.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00It's just a bug, Sadie.
SPEAKER_04Are you gonna do that? Is it gonna so it was over there underneath when you were talking? No, and now it crawled, it knew I was looking at it, and it crawled all the way over and was on my microphone.
SPEAKER_02That is fucking crazy, dude.
SPEAKER_00Are you ready for question number two?
SPEAKER_04As long as I can keep staring at this bug on the floor.
SPEAKER_00You'll walk over to the window and try and get it.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00All right. Oh my god, you will not believe what sec what the second question is.
SPEAKER_02Is it about a bug?
SPEAKER_00Menopause or made it up. Feeling like bugs are crawling on your skin. I'm not lying. I am not lying. I s I swear to God, Sadie, that's number two on this list.
SPEAKER_04It's fucking big brother listening to us. Um, that is you did not make that up because I feel like my skin is always really scratchy at nighttime.
SPEAKER_00You're right. That was menopause.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_04It's coming towards this, towards me.
SPEAKER_00No, it's not.
SPEAKER_04It's actually coming towards me. The stink bug.
SPEAKER_00It's you're fine. It's not a fucking Mac truck, Sadie. It's not gonna run you over.
SPEAKER_04It's a bug right up here and it's gonna go right inside you. Can you please just get rid of it?
SPEAKER_00All right, just a second. Thank you. Let me push pause. Literally.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god, pause.
SPEAKER_00Literally. Are you okay now?
SPEAKER_04I'm fine. Thank you. I got rid of the bug for Sadie. Thank you for saving the day. Save the day. Mighty mouse is on his way.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Are you ready for more questions about uh menopause or I just fucking made it up?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, go.
SPEAKER_00Uh where do my notes go? Maybe they're at the stink book. I know. Hold on. Okay. Losing your train fuck. Oh, here we go. This is me. No. Losing your train of thought mid-sentence regularly.
SPEAKER_04Menopause.
SPEAKER_00Menopause. Yeah, not made up. Random electric shock sensations in your body.
SPEAKER_04Not me, my experience?
SPEAKER_00No, I made that up. Okay. Crying over something small like a commercial. Although, you know, a lot of women will do that throughout their entire life.
SPEAKER_04That's just me. Yeah. I would I yeah, no. If it's emotional enough, I you got the tears from me.
SPEAKER_00You know what I saw the other day?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And this is for our Canadian listeners. Do you remember the commercial for an insurance company? I can't remember if it's Cooperators or some other insurance company where there's an elderly couple.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00What we thought was an elderly couple. They're like those actors were probably in their 40s, but they looked older than us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I'll I'm just gonna do this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm only gonna say the part that you don't hear in the commercial.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And you're gonna tell me the commercial.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Hey dad, it's Patrick. I just got life insurance.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god. Patrick!
SPEAKER_00Hello. It's Patrick. It's Patrick.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. If I had like another 10 seconds. If I had another 10 seconds to process, I would have been right there with you. I was so excited that I kind of knew something that you knew.
SPEAKER_00Used to bug the shit out of me.
SPEAKER_04I know. I know.
SPEAKER_00And now they make fun of it with memes. I know. Who is this fucking guy? Who's this speed talker, Patrick? Uh crying over something. Oh, um, hold on. Waking up at 3 a.m. every night for no reason.
SPEAKER_04Menopause.
SPEAKER_00Menopause. Yep. You're right. A lot of these are menopause. Sudden. Oh, here we go. Uh actually, this would be just for you. Sudden dislike of for foods you used to love. Does menopause do that?
SPEAKER_04No. Not for me.
SPEAKER_00I'm giving that a menopause because I know my wife did.
SPEAKER_04Really?
SPEAKER_00Yep. Oh, here we go. Joint pain that shows up out of nowhere.
SPEAKER_04Menopause, menopause, menopause, menopause. Everywhere. Hips, my ears. It f's up your hips like really bad. You get osteo, osteo, whatever it is. Arthritis?
SPEAKER_00Oteoporosis. Osteoporosis affects your spine, osteoarthritis. Being extremely sensitive to noise. Now you already like that, so you don't get to end. So you're already like.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. Is it? Is it menopause? Are you making it?
SPEAKER_00Is it menopause?
SPEAKER_04God, I've I've that's something I've dealt with my whole life.
SPEAKER_00Here's another one kind of like earlier, forgetting common words mid-conversation.
SPEAKER_04Common words, like what's the you see that as I sit here? I don't know what the fuck is happening.
SPEAKER_00So it's one of those things where like I know that like that's when Joanna goes, Can you pass me the thing with the thing and then put it in the thing?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Like kids, get downstairs, get to the stairs, the the and do the the wipe.
SPEAKER_04That's me every single day.
SPEAKER_00And then me.
SPEAKER_04Literally every single day. Meanwhile. It's so bad.
SPEAKER_00Meanwhile, you you buggered up all of their names.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I can't. I don't even know what room I'm in. I don't even know what I want them to do.
SPEAKER_00And you you think your cat's a dog.
SPEAKER_04Pretty much. Yeah. But it's this stuttering and this like constant like, what am I trying to say? When I'm like, it's in my head, but I can't get it out of my mouth.
SPEAKER_00But do you think that women are going through menopause later in life?
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_00Did you ever watch the Golden Girls?
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so I'm gonna give you a little piece of tidbit here.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00You are three years older than Rue McClanahan was when she started it. And there was an episode where she where Blanche thought she was pregnant because she was a whore.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_03It's so weird. That 50-year-old was a whore. It's just not a thing. It's so weird, but I'm I'm all about it. I just it's so funny. I love that show. Jesus Christ, it's so good.
SPEAKER_00She thought she was pregnant, but it wasn't.
SPEAKER_03It was a whole course. Of course, she's not pregnant.
SPEAKER_00And you're older than she is.
SPEAKER_03I know. Oh okay.
SPEAKER_00Now I will say that every woman in my life who is now older than Rue McClanahan was when she started on Golden Girls.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It looks like 30 years younger than Rue McClanahan did when she started on fucking Golden Girls.
SPEAKER_04But that was like the campiness of it too, right? They wanted a bunch of old ladies despite whether theirs it was the 80s. Everyone looked old at the 80s.
SPEAKER_00Oh my God.
SPEAKER_04Oh, the horrible hair. Everything. The lapels and the collars.
SPEAKER_00About three or four three or four episodes ago, we talked about the open-toed, floppy slippers that moms wore. We called them old lady slippers. And that was We called them old lady slippers. You know, my mom wore them in her 30s. They weren't old lady slippers. We just said they were old lady slippers because an old lady wore them because we were 10.
SPEAKER_04Right. So am I an old I am an old lady? No, you're not. I am. Oh it's so sad.
SPEAKER_00How okay, so when did this happen? Are you so you're on you're on medication?
SPEAKER_04I'm on hormone replace HRT. Uh so a patch, and then I take progesterone every night to balance out my hormones.
SPEAKER_00What does that do for you?
SPEAKER_04Helps me sleep a little better.
SPEAKER_00Does it make you horned up for your husband?
SPEAKER_04No. No, not no. Um, but uh sleeping better, like my moods seem to be more regulated, I would say. Um what else? What else is my benefit? I'm not hot all the time, which is very, it's very uncomfortable. Temperature is such a temperature is a really big thing because when you are dealing with any, say any bit of stress or you're speaking to someone and your internal body temperature feels like you are on lava. You can't focus.
SPEAKER_00Or liquid hot magma.
SPEAKER_04Magma. Magma. Magma. Magma. Like a shark with laser means. But like it's it's it's difficult to get, I mean, it's difficult to speak to someone or to like what if you're at a like at a bank trying to like discuss your something or others, and you're just on fire. You can't, it's just embarrassing.
SPEAKER_00Now, let me ask you a question from a man's outside perspective.
SPEAKER_04Sure.
SPEAKER_00Uh a man who's very empathetic to the plight that is menopause.
SPEAKER_04We love this. And my my husband is also very, very in tune with this. Yeah, which I love. Um good man. Was that your oh was that your dinosaur?
SPEAKER_00That's my gullet.
SPEAKER_04You know that Blam has a dinosaur?
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_04The dinosaur noise that she makes.
SPEAKER_00She comes with no idea what you're talking about. Her like all I know is Blam needs to stop bogarting my fucking birthday wishes on Facebook.
SPEAKER_04Wait, hold on.
SPEAKER_00She needs to stop doing that. You you're the one who I make a post to someone and say, happy birthday. Yeah. It was my post.
SPEAKER_04And then yours could love Blam and Papa, but you're not Blam and Papa.
SPEAKER_00You're missing the whole thing.
SPEAKER_04I'm not.
SPEAKER_00You are. I would wish somebody a happy birthday on Facebook. And then she would comment on my post. It's a post. I don't give a flying suck through a rolling task. Blam.
SPEAKER_01Not in the street.
SPEAKER_00Start your own, start your own post. Do your own post. Don't bogart. Like, I once, I once did it, and then 15 other people followed her.
SPEAKER_04I'm about to go to work.
SPEAKER_00Happy birthday, Sadie. Happy birthday, Sadie. And I'm like, you guys just negated my happy birthday. You made my happy birthday less effective.
SPEAKER_04So you want them to have a private post.
SPEAKER_00No, I want my post to say happy birthday.
SPEAKER_04And that's it.
SPEAKER_00It shows their name, my name, happy birthday. And that's it. You don't get to slide into my fucking DMs and say, happy birthday, love Blam and Papa. Blam, make your own no.
SPEAKER_04I didn't know how to do that. She's 80. Give her some goddamn credit.
SPEAKER_00Her daughter teacher how to do it. Kersty, if you're listening to this episode, I've told you this 17,000 times to tell your mother to stop bogarting my happy birthday wishes on.
SPEAKER_04Blam, I have your back. This guy is not going to come to any more family dinners.
SPEAKER_00Oh, whatever. Like any of you miniature people could stop me from coming.
SPEAKER_04Miniature.
SPEAKER_00Oh god. Are you ready to hear a couple of wacky news stories? I think she sent me one, but I've got another one.
SPEAKER_04Shoot it.
SPEAKER_00So a company in the UK.
SPEAKER_04Oh, do you want me to do my no.
SPEAKER_00No. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04You don't. You don't want me to do my English accent. Is it coming from the UK?
SPEAKER_00No, you sound like you're from fucking Sudbury, first of all.
SPEAKER_04I sound like I'm from Sudbury. Do I really?
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_00You know, for an actress, you do a shit accent.
SPEAKER_04I'm so horrible at accents.
SPEAKER_00I'm so horrible. I did a pretty good, I think this was like our third episode where I did a pretty good David Attenborough.
SPEAKER_04Did you?
SPEAKER_00Where I was describing how uh an animal crosses the street or something.
SPEAKER_04He is very captivating.
SPEAKER_00But I was African Sadie.
SPEAKER_03Stop while you're at.
SPEAKER_00That's all I have to say. That was fucking perfect.
SPEAKER_04Do you want to do like um like you're David Adborough?
SPEAKER_00I'm a Dame Judy Dench or something?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So I just did need to talk to you a little bit about.
SPEAKER_00No, Sadie. Did you not have a like a linguistics class in your acting school?
SPEAKER_04Of course we did.
SPEAKER_00And you did not Did you fail that course?
SPEAKER_04I didn't excel.
SPEAKER_00You know what, honestly, like who asks for an English accent in a fucking Hallmark movie?
SPEAKER_04Nobody.
SPEAKER_00Actually, they do, and they're all shit.
SPEAKER_04I have been told many times on set to watch my like outs and abouts and like how I pronounce that.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, so do I. Like I was doing a voiceover the other day, and somebody was like, Can you say ow? Like make your make the corn ow.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Like a heart A. I'm an American dinosaur.
SPEAKER_03I'm an I'm an American dinosaur.
SPEAKER_00This is fucking enthralling. The American Sadie crosses the street.
SPEAKER_04Oh, David. You're so incaptivating.
SPEAKER_00You sound like you sound like posh spice.
SPEAKER_04I do. Well, she where is she from? England. Okay.
SPEAKER_00There are like 17 trillion accents.
SPEAKER_04I know. I was just saying that the other day. We were watching a TV show with uh Todd. I'm like, I could listen to anyone in the UK talk of any sort. Like it's just there's so such a range.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04I like the cockney.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_04No, that's not a cockney.
SPEAKER_03Sadie. Air.
SPEAKER_00Air. I have a quest. Sorry, I have a you have a quest or a task. For you.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Next week when we record, uh-huh. I'm going to give you three sentences and I'm going to tell you, okay, is it from Manchester, Yorkshire, or London?
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00And you're going to have to say those sentences. I will pre-send you the sentences so you can practice the diction. Oh, God. And I'm going to say Manchester, and you're going to have to do a Manchester accent, because you are a world-famous Canadian actress, which should you should be able to say, Hey, Sadie's agent, can Sadie do a Dorset accent? Like, can she say, I was driving my dragger down the road? So can she do it? And your agent would go, Yes, she can. Meanwhile, I was crossing my fingers. I don't have an agent anymore, but well, regardless, you at the time, I'm going to give you three senses. Fine.
SPEAKER_04You do that.
SPEAKER_00I'm going to give you three accents. I might do this homework. So if you want to learn how to do a Manchester accent, just watch Coronation Street.
SPEAKER_04No, thank you.
SPEAKER_00That's how you learn to do a Manchester accent.
SPEAKER_04I'll just go on chat. XYZ.
SPEAKER_00It's not going to teach you the di the how for fuck's sake. Yorkshire. Ayup.
SPEAKER_03Yorkshire pussy.
SPEAKER_00No, not you like no.
SPEAKER_03Yorkshire.
SPEAKER_00No, not even close.
SPEAKER_04Yorkshire.
SPEAKER_00No. Yorkshire? This is how they say hello in in Yorkshire is Ayup.
SPEAKER_04Okay, you sell Lincoln.
SPEAKER_00Alright, then you gotta do London, like kind of a posh British accent.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Educated, which most people can do. There's a company in England, by the way, that released a menopause work policy.
SPEAKER_04Oh. I love this.
SPEAKER_00I literally it's so it's the BBC. It's their HR Employee Relations and Policy Department. I don't unfortunately have the hyperlinks to it to move me down the document. So here's the five key points of the document.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00All right, you ready?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'm so ready.
SPEAKER_00This is a real document that I downloaded.
SPEAKER_03I love this, yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right. We support a respectful and inclusive environment in which you can openly and comfortably have conversations about menopause.
SPEAKER_04I love this.
SPEAKER_00We will support you in a way that is appropriate to your needs, recognizing that the symptoms related to menopause may occur occur occur over several years. And they can differ from person to person in a very and and vary in severity. We will educate and inform team leaders about the potential symptoms of menopause and how they can appropriately support the team members.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_00We will explore options to help you maintain a healthy well-being offering. What? Sorry.
SPEAKER_04Whatever.
SPEAKER_00We will explore options to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance. Well-being, well-being support is available through our extensive well-being offering. Any personal information that you share with your team leader will be treated in the strict strictest of confidence.
SPEAKER_04I love, oh my God, are you kidding me? I love this. I love this based on the fact that we can we can support women through our pregnancies and having to and wanting to, not having to, and wanting to be with our babies and you know like maternity leave. But why can't we support them 20 years, 15 years later when the shit is really starting to fucking come? Right?
SPEAKER_00Like super fucking important considering how shitty women have been treated in the workplace for the last 5,000 years.
SPEAKER_04Like we just gotta pay attention, man.
SPEAKER_00Like we're so this memo outlines definitions.
SPEAKER_04It's so great.
SPEAKER_00It outlines it does. It outlines definitions. There are three. Sorry. There are three distinct stages. This is to educate their staff.
SPEAKER_03I love this.
SPEAKER_00And more than likely the management team.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00There are three distinct stages. Paramenopause. Uh-huh. The time leading up to the end of your periods.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00When changes start to happen, such as irregular periods and other menopausal symptoms. This can be years before menopause.
SPEAKER_04Years, literally years.
SPEAKER_00Here is menopause. A biological stage in life when you have not had a period for 12 consecutive months. The average age to reach menopause is 51.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Wow. You're like literally right there.
SPEAKER_04I'm right there.
SPEAKER_00Almost a pentagenarian.
SPEAKER_04My mom was 50.
SPEAKER_00However, it can be earlier or later than this due to surgery, illness, or other reasons. This is known as premature menopause. And in such circumstances, you may not experience perimenopause. Now, here is the big one. This is postmenopause.
SPEAKER_04I mean, and this is the shit that's real. You have to watch everything in your body. Like you the osteoporosis, like your bone density, like that's it's major breast cancer. Like it's this is a big freaking deal.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_04Big deal.
SPEAKER_00This is the time after menopause has occurred, starting with those who whose menstru who menstruate have not had a period for 12 consecutive months. So then you're you're pretty much in. This document is like this is you can get this at downloads.bbc.co.uk. Here is there's a support section as well. Self-management for those experience menopause, supporting a colleague during the stages of menopause, supporting team leaders, because you know, team leaders go through menopause.
SPEAKER_04Of course.
SPEAKER_00Because you think about it, you work your career all the way up.
SPEAKER_04All the way up, and then all of a sudden the shit starts happening to you.
SPEAKER_00And then you go through menopause. Yeah. Just don't say to your buddy, oh, she must be on the rag. Yeah. Like I don't say that to my buddy when I was a teenager.
SPEAKER_02Don't say that.
SPEAKER_00There are adjustments. There are maintaining confidentiality, equally, assessment, uh, equality, assessment, and monitoring. This is fantastic. Fucking kudos to the BBC. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Maybe one of the things to happen every day.
SPEAKER_00Oh, there's further well-being support. Now, there is an employee assistant program. Now, my company does have an EAP.
SPEAKER_01EAP.
SPEAKER_00E employee assistance program where you can go see a psychiatrist or a psychotherapist and the benefits program will cover it.
SPEAKER_04Oh, God, I would love that. I need that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we know. All right. So then there's also a bunch of links in this. What a fantastic documentary.
SPEAKER_04Brilliant. Thank you.
SPEAKER_00So kudos to the BBC. Big round of applause.
SPEAKER_04Big giant clap for you. I love this.
SPEAKER_00No, don't get the clap.
SPEAKER_04No?
SPEAKER_00No. The clap is like then.
SPEAKER_04As the French do.
SPEAKER_00I was talking about the clap, clap, Sadie. Fucking my fingernails bumps and I got it.
SPEAKER_04Isn't that what the French do?
SPEAKER_00No. I'm talking about the clap.
SPEAKER_04What do you mean the clap? The what?
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04Oh, Jesus. I'm on board. No, apparently. No, I just bought the ticket and now I'm on board. You know what else is really bad? When you have to pee, you really need to pee. So ask me if I have to pee right now.
SPEAKER_00Do you have to pee? I have to pee so bad.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Good news, folks. Sadie did not pee her pants. She managed to metaplausically make it to the toilet in time. Did you did you know?
SPEAKER_04This or that.
SPEAKER_00That's my that's my Yeah, no, they don't know.
SPEAKER_04They don't see what you do. So I'm just telling you.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay, hold on a second.
SPEAKER_02Where are we?
SPEAKER_00Well, we're gonna play. We're gonna play okay, so what we're gonna do, because you remember you were telling me that uh you um that you uh read an article about a woman who used menopause as an as a defense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, hold on. Where was that?
SPEAKER_00Uh to kill her husband.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Hold on.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so I have an idea.
SPEAKER_02Okay. What's the idea?
SPEAKER_00Well, we're gonna sound okay. So we're Are we gonna kill someone? No, you silly rap rabbit. We're gonna do like um like an episode of Law and Order.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00But it's I I uh we gotta name it, first of all. Okay. So are you familiar with Law and Order, Law and Order, S U V.
SPEAKER_04Oh, there's all of them.
SPEAKER_00P S U, Law and Order, K N Y, New York.
SPEAKER_04There's a whole bunch of L A W.
SPEAKER_00L A W.
SPEAKER_04C-O-B.
SPEAKER_00C-O-B Coberg. Oh Law and Order Coburg in the criminal justice system. Alright, so here is what we're gonna do. We're gonna where the hell are my notes? Oh, it's not there. Uh we're gonna we're gonna kind of create an episode, but we gotta name the show first.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00So what I've tentatively tentatively named it is the entire series, the entire show, is based on menopause. Yeah. So it's law and order menopause unit. All right, are you ready?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I I don't know, but yes.
SPEAKER_00Hold on.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Yeah, clear that throat, bro.
SPEAKER_00I can't look at you seriously right now. Okay, go. I won't look at you. Go. In the criminal justice system, oh fuck. I got my tongue all bound up.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Not looking. Go.
SPEAKER_00In the criminal justice system, hormonal-based offenses are considered especially confusing. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these emotionally turned situations are members of Elite Squad known as the menopause unit. These are their stories. All right, so how do we get into the show? All right. So the first thing is there's a kid. Okay, so I'm gonna read you a script that was written. Okay. Yes. There's a coffee maker beeping. So we're basically gonna walk through the a little bit of the episode of Law and Order Metopause Unit. Okay. All right, you ready?
SPEAKER_02Wow, so serious. Yes, go.
SPEAKER_00So there's a coffee maker beeping.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, you've read scripts before. So if I read the direction, seen one.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't say interior morning, but it should say INT morning. Right? You remember that from reading?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00All right, coffee maker beeping. A woman, Carol, stands in front of the fridge staring.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Carol, why am I here? Her husband Mike walks in casually. Morning. Did you take the chicken out last night? Silence.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Why is she taking out the chicken? Slowly turning. What chicken? The one I asked you about. Twice. There's a beat. Carol, suddenly furious. Oh, I'm sorry, Mike. I didn't realize my entire purpose in life was poultry management. Mike, oh, whoa, okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like why did you?
SPEAKER_00I have a lot going on. She opens the freezer aggressively. The chicken is still in frozen solid. Carol quietly. I knew I forgot something. Police station. Detective, we gotta call domestic disturbance possible. Chicken related escalation.
SPEAKER_01Chicken?
SPEAKER_00Frozen, left out, then not left out. Detective three. We've seen this before. So interrogation room. Carol sits calmly, sipping water, detectives across from her. Ma'am, can you walk us through what happened? I was fine. Totally fine. And then suddenly I was not fine. Can you define not fine? Hot, angry, confused. I cried at a yogurt commercial earlier.
SPEAKER_04Yes, yes, say Carol.
SPEAKER_00Detective One says. Classic onset. Cut away for a flashback. Carol standing in the kitchen sweating. Carol, voiceover. I f it felt like my body just betrayed me. She opens the freezer, then Ford and then forgets why.
SPEAKER_01Police station.
SPEAKER_00Any history of this? She yelled at the thermostat yesterday, called it useless. And the day before, she put on a sweater, then took it off, then put it back on six times. Story of my life. What are you dealing with is menopause? Hormonal shifts, mood changes, memory lapses. You could have an entire fucking 10-year series on this. Why did you kill him? Menopause. Yeah, we knew that, but why?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because he was a fucking dick. Uh back in the kitchen, calm. Carol's sipping coffee. Mike cautiously enters. Mike, hey, I took the chicken out. Carol calmly says, Thank you. Then there's a beat, and Mike says, You okay? No, but I'm aware of it now. They nod. Growth.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_04Look at that. The end of the fucking show. Right there.
SPEAKER_00In the criminal justice system, not all cases are solved. Some are simply managed with patients, understanding.
SPEAKER_04And hormones.
SPEAKER_00And lawyers.
SPEAKER_03Hormones.
SPEAKER_00And hormones.
SPEAKER_03That was a really good job.
SPEAKER_00We have a television show. That was a really good job, Scott. Thank you very much.
SPEAKER_04And this is all off the cuff there, people. We didn't even know we were doing this shit tonight. This is great.
SPEAKER_00We could literally do like a like a serial podcast where it's like scripted and you use sound effects and microphones. You could be the star because you're a former Canadian actress. Sorry, formerly. No. Can become a show. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00No, listen, you couldn't even do a Godderich accent. What where's Goderich? I don't know what Western part of Ontario on Georgian Bay. And Lake Huron. Goddrich, so you all go to the Artmart. The Art Mart?
SPEAKER_04What's the Art Mart?
SPEAKER_00The Art Mart.
SPEAKER_04Like the convenience store?
SPEAKER_00No, they go to a place where they sell art, Sadie. It's called the Art Mart.
SPEAKER_04People go and buy art at the Art Mart?
SPEAKER_03Who buys art at an Art Mart?
SPEAKER_00Why did I start a podcast right when my podcast cohesive started podcast? I don't like the Art Mart.
SPEAKER_04That's so weird.
SPEAKER_00Okay, last bonus questions for you, and then we're gonna wrap up the show. I don't have any reviews because I haven't looked them up. So sorry, no five-star reviews this year. This week. This year.
SPEAKER_02Oh dear. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Here we go. Bonus round. Menopause or just Sadie.
SPEAKER_03This is a great game. Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Cancels plans last minute. Just Sadie.
SPEAKER_03Just Sadie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Gets annoyed for no clear reason. Menopause. Menopause. Yeah. 1000%. Needs quite immediately.
SPEAKER_04Sadie.
SPEAKER_00No, I menopause. I was gonna say menopause. Well, it's you are your Sadie, by the way.
SPEAKER_04And also my menopause.
SPEAKER_00I don't own it. I'm just guessing. Well, what is it?
SPEAKER_04What?
SPEAKER_00Needs quite immediately. Sadie or menopause?
SPEAKER_04Sadie.
SPEAKER_00Is it?
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, I'm still saying menopause.
SPEAKER_04Are you? Okay. Well, I think it's a combination of both.
SPEAKER_00You used to be a really loud person. Last one. Forgets why she opened her phone. Just Sadie.
SPEAKER_04Fine. I'll concede.
SPEAKER_00Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for joining us for this week's episode of Start Talking with Sadie and Scott. We hope that you enjoyed listening to it as much as we did bringing it to you. Sadie?
SPEAKER_04Hi.
SPEAKER_00Should we do our weekly rock, paper, scissors to see who gets to go in that? Okay.
SPEAKER_02Let's go.
SPEAKER_00Or would you like to add any metapausal things before we close the show?
SPEAKER_04No, just well, talk to a doctor. Obviously, it can actually really help. Just talk to a doctor. Talk to your doctor.
SPEAKER_03Ready?
SPEAKER_04Why do we sound like a nine-year-old?
SPEAKER_00You sound like D. Snyder for the side.
SPEAKER_04Alright. Alright. Let's go. Ready? One, two, three. Go.
SPEAKER_00You get to say goodbye and don't fuck it up this time.
SPEAKER_04Thanks for joining us today, guys. We really appreciate it. This was an off-the-coff one. We had so much fun. We'll talk to you next week. Love it!
SPEAKER_00Don't forget to. You gotta do the whole fucking spiel stuff.
SPEAKER_04Go on our socials, the TikTok, the Facebook, the thing, the thing. Scott's gonna.
SPEAKER_00What's our email address?
SPEAKER_04Start talking with Sadie and Scottish.
SPEAKER_00Oh, for fuck's sake. Start talking pod at gmail.com. I should just like.
SPEAKER_04This is why I this is why I don't want to do this. This is why I want to do what?
SPEAKER_00Like run the show?
SPEAKER_04No, yes. This is why I don't want to run the show. I want to do the podcast. I want you to do all the things.
SPEAKER_00Okay, but if you win the rock, paper, scissors, you have to have the whole script.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so I need to. I need to pay attention to like how I can lose.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, have you not listened to every episode when I sign off and say don't forget to check us out on our socials?
SPEAKER_04Have you not listened to this entire fucking episode?
SPEAKER_00No, because I have menopause.
SPEAKER_04Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Are you gonna say we're up for now?
